Recognizing German Numbers: A Practice Game

Numbers in German may not be as tricky as the old German handwriting, but they do look slightly different than our English numbers – which can be enough to trip us up from time to time. How good are you at recognizing German numbers? Look at the examples below, and see if you can guess what the numbers are! Then, hover your mouse over the picture, and the answer will appear. Let us know in the comments how you did!

Remember:

  • 1’s can be dotted, like the letter i.
  • 1’s usually have a little flag to the left (if not dotted).
  • 7’s can be crossed in the middle.
  • 2’s may or may not have a loop at the bottom left corner.
  • 9’s may be looped at the bottom or go below the line of writing.
